What is Hospice?

“You matter because of who you are. You matter to the last moment of your life, and we will do all we can , not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.”

--Dame Cicely Saunders, founder of the first modern hospice

Understanding Hospice Care

Hospice care is a type of health care that focuses on the palliation of a terminally ill patient's symptoms. These symptoms can be physical, emotional, spiritual, or social in nature. The goal of hospice care is to provide comfort and support to the patient and their family, rather than to cure the underlying illness. Hospice care is provided by a team of specially trained professionals, including doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, and volunteers. Hospice care can be provided in the patient's home, in a hospice facility, or in a hospital.

Hospice care focuses on treating the symptoms at the end of life. Choosing hospice does not mean giving up hope. It simply means that treatment will aim to improve the patient's quality of life rather than trying to cure the disease.

Who is Hospice Care For?

Hospice care is for people who are terminally ill and have a life expectancy of six months or less. Our team at Elite Hospice Care will work together to provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support for the patient and their loved ones. Hospice care is covered by Medicare and Medicaid, and many private insurance plans.

How is Hospice Helpful?

Hospice can provide pain relief and symptom management, as well as emotional and spiritual support for patients and their families. Hospice can also help patients with end-of-life planning, including advance directives and funeral arrangements as well as providing respite care, which gives caregivers a break from their caregiving duties.

When a patient is diagnosed with a life limiting illness, home hospice and palliative care services may be the answer. Wherever home is - a skilled nursing facility, a friend’s house, a family member’s house or the house you’ve been living in for many years - there’s something calming about being in your own home. Our services allow patients to make the most of each day, at home, surrounded by family and friends, in a familiar, comfortable environment

One of our team members will meet with you to discuss your loved one’s needs. We work with our patients, their loved ones and their physician to determine a personalized plan of care.
